Hinsdale Central

District #86 Leadership Conference!

On Monday, Feburary 6th, the JKB kids from both Hinsdale Central and Hinsdale South teamed up to teach club presidents and other student-leaders the Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teenagers and the interpersonal skills taught at the ranch.

The event was a smashing success--the club presidents came away with practical ideas to improve both their leadership skills and their clubs, and developed mission statements to impliment these ideas.  Not only that, but the students all had a lot of fun, and the pizza lunch was excellent!

We are looking forward to our next two confereces--the WSC and the DVC--in the next few weeks.

The First Semester in Review

We have had a busy semester here at Central so far!  We started out right away in September, when we coordinated a massive school-wide effort to present conflict resolution skills to all freshman homerooms.  We trained over 130 sophomores, juniors, and seniors to perform and explain these valuable skills.  It was a huge success!

Then, in early October, we participated in the County Character College at North Central College in Naperville, IL.  We presented the conflict resolution skills to middle school students identified as leaders by their teachers and administration.

On October 16th we volunteered to set up and take down the signs for a charity race organized by the Wellness House and Clarendon Hills Rotary, with proceeds going to cancer treatment and Hurricane Katrina.  It was an early morning, but the between-jobs breakfast at Egg Harbor made it all worthwhile.

Before facing our archrivals, Lyons Township, in a battle for gridiron supremacy, we worked along side of our Habitat for Humanity club to stage a chili dinner to benefit communities affected by Hurricane Katrina.  The event raised over $4,000!

In November, we participated in school-wide program, Clubs that Care, to provide a disadvantaged family in Chicago with Christmas presesnts.  We all chipped in to buy clothes and toys for the family that we sponsored.  I don't think the local Target store knew what hit them.  Pictures to come...

Right now, we are in the midst of our nominating process.  Resumes are due today, and there are some solid candidates in the sophomore class.  We look forward to introducing them to you!

Happy Holidays from Hinsdale Central JKB!
